Start smaller, step up
Raise your SIP 10% a year, in step with pay hikes, and you could start at
₹12,086/mo
instead of ₹21,012, and still reach your goal.
Enter a target and a timeline to see the monthly SIP that gets you there, with an optional yearly step-up and a goal priced for inflation.
In line with long-run equity index returns
Increase your SIP every year, say with each pay hike
Grow the target with prices until your goal date
Monthly SIP needed
₹21,012/mo
You need ₹21,012 a month to reach ₹1,00,00,000.
What small changes would do to your plan
Raise your SIP 10% a year, in step with pay hikes, and you could start at

Same goal date, later start: you’d need a bigger SIP every month.

At 6% inflation, what ₹1 Cr buys today will cost about
₹2.4 Cr
by Oct 2041.
A goal SIP calculator works backwards. Enter the amount you need and when you need it, and it tells you the monthly SIP that gets you there at the return you expect. Add a yearly step-up to start lower, or plan the goal in today’s money and let the calculator grow it with inflation.
To see what a fixed monthly amount grows into instead, use the SIP calculator.
Your goal is divided by what ₹1 a month would grow to over the same time at the same return. Here’s the formula with your numbers plugged in:
P = FV ÷ ([(1 + i)n − 1] ÷ i × (1 + i))
Why not just r ÷ 12? Fund returns are quoted as yearly compounded growth (CAGR). Converting with (1 + r)1/12 − 1 makes twelve monthly steps add up to exactly 12%. Dividing by 12 would quietly assume 12.68% a year and overstate your returns.
The monthly SIP that reaches each target at 12% a year:
| Target | 5 years | 10 years | 15 years | 20 years |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹10 L | ₹12,330 | ₹4,464 | ₹2,102 | ₹1,088 |
| ₹25 L | ₹30,825 | ₹11,159 | ₹5,253 | ₹2,718 |
| ₹50 L | ₹61,650 | ₹22,318 | ₹10,506 | ₹5,436 |
| ₹1 Cr | ₹1,23,300 | ₹44,636 | ₹21,012 | ₹10,872 |
A 10% yearly step-up lets you start lower: ₹1 Cr in 15 years needs ₹12,086 a month to begin with, instead of ₹21,012 for a flat SIP. How much SIP do you need for ₹1 crore? covers more timelines, return rates and the effect of inflation.
It runs the SIP formula backwards. It works out what ₹1 a month would grow to over your timeline at your expected return, then divides your goal by that figure to get the monthly SIP.
At 12% a year, about ₹21,000 a month over 15 years or ₹10,900 over 20 years. With a 10% yearly step-up you could start at about ₹12,100 or ₹5,400 instead.
Yes, if the goal is a future purchase. Enter its cost in today’s money and turn on inflation, and the calculator grows it to the goal date first. At 6% inflation, something that costs ₹20 lakh today will cost about ₹48 lakh in 15 years.
Give it more time, add a yearly step-up, or lower the target. At 12% a year, every five extra years roughly halves the monthly SIP. Assuming a higher return only makes the plan look easier.
No. The calculator assumes a steady return, while real returns vary every year. Review the plan once a year and raise the SIP if you fall behind.
