About Sipculator
Sipculator is a free SIP calculator for Indian investors. It shows what a monthly SIP, a lumpsum or a goal-based plan could grow into, with step-ups, inflation and year-by-year growth, and every calculation runs in your browser.
What it’s for
Use it to size a monthly investment, compare plans and set targets for goals like retirement, a home or a child’s education. It doesn’t recommend funds or give investment advice. There’s no sign-up, and there are no ads or affiliate links.
How the numbers are calculated
- SIP: FV = P × [(1 + i)n − 1] ÷ i × (1 + i), with each instalment invested at the start of its month.
- Monthly rate: i = (1 + r)1/12 − 1, so twelve monthly steps compound to exactly the annual return r. Fund returns are quoted that way (CAGR); dividing by 12 would quietly assume 12.68% for a 12% input.
- Step-up SIP: simulated month by month, raising the instalment at the start of every year.
- Lumpsum: FV = P × (1 + r)t, the same yearly compounding, so SIP and lumpsum results are comparable.
- Goal: the monthly SIP is the goal divided by what ₹1 a month grows to over the same time, with or without a step-up.
- Inflation: today’s value is FV ÷ (1 + inflation)t.
What the results assume
- A constant annual return. Real returns vary from year to year, so actual results will be higher or lower.
- Figures before tax. Gains are taxed when you redeem, under the rules in force at the time.
- Fund costs only if your expected return is net of them, as a fund’s reported returns are.
How the results are checked
The calculation engine has automated tests. They check the month-by-month SIP simulation against the closed-form formula, the goal calculation against the SIP it implies, and every worked figure quoted on these pages against the engine itself.
